The Story

The Creation This was my first finished work using sponge technique, and it tested my patience in the best way. I built up layers of deep indigo and royal blue across the canvas, then introduced the fuchsia and maroon forms in opposite corners. The sponging process became meditative – add paint, blend, step back, realise I’d overworked it, redefine the edges, add more colour. I worked on my studio floor through the afternoon into evening, moody music playing as I used different sponge sizes to control the gradient between light and dark. The paint needed careful handling – too much blending and it would move rather than hold. Kind of perfect, actually – overworking something beautiful until it loses itself. Rose gold shimmer went into the purple areas last, subtly outlining the two forms and giving them that cosmic glow.
